Four ways to enjoy a family evening together
Sometimes with all the hectic pressures of family life, we forget about what’s most important: enjoying time together.
So free up some time, put a mark on the calendar and give up cooking responsibilities for one night. Whether that means grabbing dinner in London or scouring the internet for food delivery in Glasgow, you’ve earned some time off – now enjoy it.
While there are loads of ways to relax and share company after school or work and here are four classics.
Build a garden fire – and tell stories!
If your garden is big enough, fires are an excellent way to spend time together. Not only is building one a fun group activity (so long as everybody is safe), but it gives everyone a perfect chance to relax and unwind while getting a much-needed dose of fresh air. Once everyone is settled down, why not take turns telling stories over the fire’s spooky crackling light? You’re bound to have plenty of fun.
Play cards
Whether it’s Rummy, Spoons or Poker: card games can make excellent activities for a family evening. The great thing about cards is there’s a game suitable for any age, with easier games (such as snap) suiting families with young children. If you’re feeling particularly inventive, why not try to create a new card game as a family?
Make a treasure hunt
Treasure hunts are an excellent way for a family to work together to solve challenging puzzles left by the organiser. While there are loads of different ways this can work, a classic choice is for each clue to be a riddle hinting at the location of the next clue. And at the end, the clues lead to a special treat.
To make things harder, consider making two different hunts and having teams compete.
Throw a play
A family play might sound a little cheesy but actually it can be tremendous fun – especially when things don’t go according to plan! If you have a large family, the adults can make one play while the kids put on another.
If there’s another family you’re all friends with, you can take turns putting on a play each other every few months (or perhaps during the holiday season). This is a great way to make memories and enjoy family time and you’ll have plenty of chances to be creative in the process.
