The Motherhood feat. Fiat 500L
This is a hilarious video. When I first got sent it for review, I have to admit to cringing at yet another ‘amusing take on motherhood’, but it really is funny. It’s a rap (I know, but really, you have to watch it) and it sort of compares motherhood to running a ‘hood’. It shows how life changes with motherhood. The music is catchy and there are some great lyrics:
I swapped my sexy handbag, for a snot stained sack.
Sleep deprived, under house arrest. Think I’d sell both kidneys just to get some rest.
I really can’t explain it well. Just watch it. It’s very funny. Motherhood, warts and all.
I love things like this that admit that parenthood is not a bed of roses. Of course we wouldn’t be without our kids, but there is no question that having them changes our lives significantly. And, unless you work in the caring industries, you would never imagine how much bodily fluid you’d be clearing up for years to come. Finding that pitch hard to put together? Try explaining to a six-year-old why they should not leave their shoes and coat in the middle of the living room floor, or to a three-year-old why it’s not a good idea to hit their sister repeatedly with a sword. Your pitch will seem a thousand times easier!
I’m sure there are a few dads out there who will complain about the lack of dad in the video. I’m fortunate enough to have a husband who shares household tasks and childcare equally with me, and who also works from home, so we have a very good balance. And I have friends who do the same. But I think this video conveys a pretty realistic picture for a lot of mums out there. I hope, though, that by the time our girls are mums (assuming they choose to have children, of course), that the balance will be far closer to equal on all fronts.
