Book Week round-up: Day 1: Writing
I hope you’ve been enjoying Book Week so far – I certainly have.
If you haven’t seen all today’s posts, yet, here’s a round-up of what we’ve seen so far.
The first two posts of the day shared tips for novel writing – mine was a lesson in how not to do it, as I have quite a few unfinished novels hanging around glaring at me and making me feel incompetent. Emily Carlisle of More Than Just a Mother, on the other hand, shared some very useful tips on how to actually go about writing a novel. And she should know because she’s actually finished one and is working on the second draft.
Mid-morning saw us delving into the world of non-fiction, with the story of Cocktails at Naptime, a blog to book success story from Emma Kaufmann and Gillian Martin (and let’s hope a UK publisher picks them up soon, because I would love to go and pick this off the shelf in WH Smith!). And then Frances Evesham provided a very instructive post about publishing for Kindle. If this is something you’re considering, then you should definitely read this post.
And in the afternoon, we returned to novel writing, with Mummy @ Bod for tea’s tale of a successful NaNoWriMo attempt. I’ve tried it a couple of times and haven’t got past 5000, so huge kudos to her. Why don’t you give it a go, too?
Tomorrow: Learning to read
Come back tomorrow for a day of posts all about learning to read, with advice on how to help your children enjoy learning to read, how to help teenagers and adults learn to read and links to some resources that might be useful.
