Book Week: Summer
I hope you enjoyed the last Book Week. The next one will be 4 July – 10 July and will have the theme ‘Summer’. I’m looking for guest posts, linked posts, useful/relevant links and books to review and/or give away. Here’s the schedule, with the themes for each day and tentative topics that I’d like to feature. If you’d like to write a post, you can leave a comment here, email me, DM me, Facebook message or, I don’t know, send me a postcard! I’m happy to take posts that fit the theme for a day, but don’t necessarily fit the narrowed-down topics. And feel free to suggest further topics for any of the days.
Summer Book Week Schedule
Monday 4 July – Stars and Stripes
Since we’re starting Book Week on 4 July, it would be remiss not to feature the United States of America somewhere.
- US fiction
- American children’s books
Tuesday 5 July – Summer Holidays
Tuesday is for the children. Books to keep them happy over the long holidays. Books to help them keep up with what they’ve learnt over the year. Books to help them with craft projects or activities.
- Early readers – read-at-home books/series, tips for keeping them reading (and writing) in the holidays, workbooks, topic books
- Young readers – fiction series or great books, topic books, activity books
- Teenagers and young adults – great fiction books/series, revision guides, exam practice
- Activities and crafts – activities and craft books for children of all ages
Wednesday 6 July – Holiday Reading
Wednesday will be all about fiction, with lots of recommendations and reviews to keep you going throughout the summer, hopefully.
- What we like to read on holiday – it would be great to have a few guest posts here (or linked posts), to see the variety of holiday reading people enjoy
- Reviews, reviews, reviews – I am writing reviews of all the novels I’ve read recently and will write them for those I read between now and then, as well. I might throw in a few classics that I’ve read again and again, too. I’d love to have loads of guest posts here (again, or linked posts) so that we can all gather together some tips for new books to get stuck into over the summer.
Thursday 7 July – Holiday Projects
Sometimes the summer months are an opportunity to undertake a big project – maybe something you’ve been thinking about for a while. So Thursday will provide reviews of books that will help with that.
- Gardening
- DIY
- Cooking
- Decorating
Friday 8 July – Writing in the Garden
This is all about writing, with guest posts from published and unpublished writers.
- Where we like to write – I’d love to have a few guest posts (or linked posts) here to show the wide variety of writing spaces people have. Think A Room of My Own, but on a somewhat smaller scale.
- Writing support – Where do you get the help you need when you’re starting out? Posts about writing groups, courses and forums.
- Muse, memory or media? Where do you get your ideas from – for plots, characters, and anything else? Again, I’d love a few guest posts here for variety.
Saturday 9 July – Holiday Learning
When I was at university, I liked to pick something to learn over the summer holidays – a foreign language, shorthand, a new software programme… Of course, these days the summer holidays tend to bring less time, rather than more time, but I still like the idea of learning something new, even if it’s just a new recipe, or reading a history book as well as the usual novels.
- Teach yourself books
- Self-help books
- Non-fiction – science, history, biography
Sunday 10 July – Fly Away
To round up the Summer Book Week, we couldn’t really miss out travel – if you can’t manage to fit in or afford a trip abroad, you can travel somewhere without leaving the sofa.
- Travel writing
- Guide books
- Emigrating
- And, of course, Sunday will also the Book Week Giveaway. Lots of people won new books at the last one, and we’re hoping to have even more to give away this time.
Badge code, if you want one (will always – at least, when I remember to update it – link to the most up-to-date Book Week post):
Note: For some reason, WordPress (or something) is making the quotes inside the grab box curly instead of straight. For the code to work, they need to be straight.
