The Baking Pocket Bible

My love of baking started when I was very young and I was inspired by my Mum, Grandma and Great Grandma who all loved baking. As I was growing up my Mum always baked cakes and treats for us – rarely was there a shop-bought cake in our house! We would bake together most weeks and I learned many of her recipes and tips by heart – something that amazed some of my housemates at University, who had no idea how to bake a cake! Some of my fondest childhood memories are the birthday cakes my Mum would make for me. She would always choose something that we loved at the time and I remember a wonderful cake she made in the shape of some ballet shoes, a beautiful princess castle and a cute little chocolate hedgehog cake.

I have nurtured this love of baking and a couple of years ago started to blog about cakes I had made and recipes I enjoyed baking. Then I started my own successful cake decorating business, Cake Shop Corner. Last year I was approached by a publishing company asking if I would be interested in writing a baking book for them and last month my first book, ‘The Baking Pocket Bible’ was published. It was a hugely proud moment for me and my family and I couldn’t have put it altogether without the help and support from my Mum, who scurried around hunting down family recipes and digging through her stash of cookbooks for inspiration.

The book is divided into sections, which include cupcakes, cakes, cookies, bread and two chapters that were packed full of my Mum’s recipes – comfort baking and traditional baking. It is also has plenty of helpful baking tips and interesting facts. I know quite a few people who have bought The Baking Pocket Bible as a gift for their Mothers this Mothering Sunday – I hope they enjoy reading it and baking the recipes as much as I enjoyed writing it.
